AMAZING GRACE

AMAZING GRACE

When I asked my mom which decade has been her favorite, she proudly proclaimed the decade she is currently observing, “my 70’s!”

To celebrate her birthday week, I invited her to join me in conversation on important topics that are often avoided and under explored: age // ageism. More specifically, how they relate to society’s perception of worthiness. As women, our value seems to decrease as our age increases. My mom and I unpack that decidedly outdated and dangerous concept ... while also celebrating the depth, intimacy, and growth attained only through life experience.

AS TIME GOES ON YOU GAIN WISDOM AND THAT FACTORS INTO HAPPINESS

When I think of aging, I try and look at each moment as one earned. I earned these laugh lines; I earned the furrow in my brow. We must approach this process as a life lived, rather than a decline in significance. Simply, aging should not equal shame. The days we have on this planet are etched onto our bodies and spirits, and they should amount to an enormous blessing. We hope this conversation opens the door for more in-depth discussion, inviting a healthier, safe, and more triumphant approach to the aging process.

Lastly, I have to thank my mom for her courage in vulnerability. She took this subject matter on through a personal lens, and with utmost bravery.

Cheers to you mama ... you’re just getting started.

Kindest,

Kate
